Discover The 3 Easy Rules of Thumb That Help You Decorate Any Wall

We all love a well-designed space that boasts eye-catching wall art, but not all of us have an eye for decorating. When you don’t instinctively know what to do, decorating walls can be quite a hassle.

Fortunately, you don’t need to give up. Here are a few rules of thumb that will help you decorate any wall like an expert!

Rule #1: Get the right height

It might not seem important at first, but the height at which you hang your wall decor can make or break the design of the room.

Hang it too high and it affects the room’s proportions. But hang it too low and it will become hard to see or admire.

So don’t make things hard for your guests. A good rule of thumb is to hang wall decor so that the midpoint is about 60 inches from the floor. Of course, this should be adjusted to suit your “audience”. If your family members are more on the shorter side, then bring the wall art a bit lower.

Rule #2: Connect wall decor with room elements

Wall decor is meant to complement and harmonize the room’s design. In order to do this, it should connect to other elements in the room. Here are a few failproof ideas:

Sofa: the wall above the sofa begs to be decorated! Choose a statement piece and hang it 8-10 inches above the sofa.

    Anchor Initial Monogram

Fireplace: this is the coziest spot in the whole house, so make sure you decorate it with something that really puts a smile on your face. Maybe some family photos or a personalized metal sign with the family name. Try to hang the art 10-12 inches above the mantle.

    Majestic Bald Eagle Monogram

Dinner Table: nothing brings families together like dinner time. So why not decorate the wall above the dining table with something that represents your family? In this case, don’t hang the art too high, so as to allow others to view it comfortably while sitting down.

    Sunflower Monogram

Staircase: decorating the staircase is a no -brainer! Make sure you place any wall art at a reasonable height so that it’s easy to admire while going up the stairs.

    Rule #3: Play with proportions

Decorating your walls correctly largely depends on other design elements in the room. If a room is crowded, we don’t recommend you add more clutter by hanging many small pieces of art on the wall.

Most of us live in cluttered spaces. The ideal solution is to choose a larger piece of wall decor. A statement piece will bring everything together in a harmonious way.
