Texan Décor That Will Make the Most of San Jacinto Day

If you’re a genuine Texan like us, then you’ll know all about San Jacinto Day! It’s ok if you don’t, though, because we’re about to tell you all about it!

In Texas, San Jacinto is celebrated as a public holiday and is an opportunity for everyone to observe the great history of the Lone Star State. Though not as widely acknowledged as before, the holiday still has significance to historical aficionados and Texan patriots across the state.

But, just what is San Jacinto Day?

Well, during the 1820s, the state of Texas was still a part of Mexico, though that didn’t mean there wasn’t a push for an independent Republic of Texas. In 1835, a declaration of an independent Texas was drafted, and a provisional government was formed. Naturally, the Mexican President, Santa Anna, was none too pleased about this and marched an army into Texas to stop the uprising in its tracks. This culminated in a few key battles, the most famous of which being the Siege of the Alamo Mission in San Antonio (Remember the Alamo!).

A vengeful army of Texan volunteers eventually confronted Santa Anna near modern-day La Porte. During the Battle of San Jacinto, Santa Anna was defeated and his army driven out of Texas, with the President being captured in the battle.

The battle was a rousing success for Texans and established Texas as an independent republic until it was eventually absorbed into the United States of America in 1846.

San Jacinto Day celebrates that decisive victory and the free and independent Texas that formed as a result.
